This graphic organizer was used by Sophomore students to brainstorm ideas and keywords for research. That involved previous knowledge and information from a quick pre-search on a still general topic. The graphic organizer was used by advisors’ of the research project as a guide into the student thinking about the topic in order to allow guidance for narrowing down the research topic.
The table below was used in the same Sophomore research project to track student search strategies. Students had to type keyword used and ony advanced search options, indicate possibly useful sources and some comments to help remeber what the sources talk about. This table was part of the support assessment to help advisors guide students in refining their search. Sometimes you could see a student stuck in one type of search strategy and not trying out other keywords that were appearing in sources and seemed useful.
